Fed: Government opens way for Westralia compensation payments

The government has opened the way for payment of millions in compensation to those
injured and traumatised in the 1998 HMAS Westralia tragedy.

The government has formally admitted legal liability after reaching a settlement with
the companies whose work caused the fire in which four sailors were killed.

Lawyer EMMA HINES .. from the firm Slater and Gordon .. who represents seven former
Westralia sailors .. says compensation could be in the order of 10 million dollars.
