Oly: Olympic security rehearsal at today s Easter Show

New South Wales police are staging a security operation at the Royal Easter Show at
Homebush in preparation for the Sydney Olympics.

About 20,000 people are expected through the turnstiles at a given access point where
the operation is set up.

Sydney Olympic Park precinct commander Superintendent ROLAND TISDALE says police and
volunteers have set up a large enclosure near one of the entrance gates, containing several
walk-through metal detectors.

They are replicating what will happen at Games time for spectators.

He says the 500,000 spectators expected daily for the Games could expect security screening.

Spectators will be asked to remove all metal items from their bags or pockets and pass
through a metal detector. Bags will then be searched.

The exercise is to familiarise police and the public with procedures and to maximise
efficiencyhe says.

During the Games, 12,500 offficials will monitor access points across all Olympic venues,
while 200 are involved in the Easter Show operation.
