Regarding Chris Williams's May 21 op-ed, "In defense of a lifewithout gadgets":
It is so refreshing to hear from someone who can still functionwithout being constantly connected to the media, the Internet or asocial network.
In addition to the financial benefits that Mr. Williams gets byforgoing most technology, I would add that he is also avoiding theinterruptions and accompanying stress of constant communication andinput from media outlets.
While I am not as disconnected as he claims to be (I text once ina while and have a television set), I feel much better when I'm notbeing bombarded by trivial messages and media images (andadvertising). While each of our recently developed high-tech gadgetsare great for certain purposes, I can't help but feel that we wouldall be better off if we did not allow ourselves to become tetheredto them.
High tech sometimes appears to be running us, rather than theother way around.
